Gestures on the Galaxy Watch8

Double-press the Home key (top button)

DocumentedInput: Watch button

Requires: Galaxy Watch on Wear OS (One UI Watch), Galaxy Watch4 or later

Set it up

  1. Settings
  2. Advanced features
  3. Customize keys
  4. Double press
  5. Quick signal

Also settable from the phone: Galaxy Wearable, Watch settings, Advanced features, Double press. Menu names vary by version: Samsung's guides also show Advanced, Home key and Double press Home key, and its Galaxy Watch Ultra guide puts button settings under Buttons and gestures. SOS on the watch also listens to repeated Home key presses (Samsung's guides mention 3 presses by default; the count can be changed), so space double presses apart. Samsung's model list for this feature names Watch4 to Watch7; newer models are listed because Samsung's Wear OS instructions are not model-specific. The Watch Ultra Quick button is not listed: Samsung documents it for workouts, stopwatch, flashlight, water lock and the siren, and only one Samsung page mentions supported apps.

Plus what the app offers on every Wear OS watch: Watch (hold to fire). How to set those up

Recommended presets

  • Home key ×2Sends a signal

Two Home-key double presses about 2 s apart; deliberate, and the spacing keeps clear of the watch's repeated-press SOS.

    Watch button ×2, 1.5–4 s apart · whole gesture within 9 s

  • Home key ×3Sends a signal

Three Home-key double presses about 2 s apart; a longer pattern for people who press the Home key a lot, e.g. during workouts.

    Watch button ×3, 1.5–4 s apart · whole gesture within 13 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
