Quick ball is an on-screen floating button, not a hardware key: the first tap fans out its five shortcuts and a tap on our shortcut opens the app, so one oem_key event means two taps, and it works only while the screen is on. Xiaomi documents that Quick ball shortcuts can include applications (POCO F6 and F6 Pro FAQs, HyperOS); its other model FAQs list only navigation and settings shortcuts and do not name the app list inside Select shortcuts. Guides for MIUI 13 (TechBone) and for MIUI 14 and HyperOS (nextpit, June 2024) say a shortcut slot can open any app; nextpit also says the ball can be made available on the lock screen, which we have not tested with our entry. Xiaomi warns that the floating ball causes accidental touches; move it or turn on auto-hide. Xiaomi's other shortcuts cannot open a chosen app, so they are not listed: Back tap (Additional settings > Gesture shortcuts > Back tap, only on some models) offers a fixed list such as camera, calculator, screenshot, silent mode or TalkBack (one guide says some builds offer certain apps; the conservative reading is a fixed list); double-pressing the power key opens only the camera or turns on the flashlight; HyperOS fingerprint shortcuts offer preset entries only; the POCO F4 GT shoulder triggers offer camera, flashlight, voice or screen recording. Menu labels can differ slightly between MIUI and HyperOS versions.
