Gestures on the realme 9i

With the screen off, draw a custom screen-off gesture (Draw ^, Draw M, Draw W, or a slide up/down/left/right) that is set to open an app

DocumentedInput: Screen-off gesture

Requires: Full realme UI build (realme UI 1.0 to 7.0). realme says realme UI R, Go, S and T Edition do not support it; U Edition and builds labelled only "realme UI" are not confirmed.

Set it up

  1. Settings
  2. Accessibility & convenience
  3. Gestures & motions
  4. Screen-off gestures
  5. Add gesture
  6. Draw M
  7. Open an app
  8. Quick signal: gesture

Path shown is realme UI 6.0/7.0. realme UI 3.0-5.0: Settings > System settings (or Additional settings) > Gestures & motions > Screen-off gestures > Add gesture. realme UI 1.0/2.0: Settings > Convenience tools > Gestures & motions > Screen-off gestures > Add gesture. realme's guide lists the addable gestures as Draw ^, Slide up, Slide down, Slide left, Slide right, Draw M and Draw W; after choosing one you pick its function. realme's English guides do not name the functions; the screenshot in realme's China guide shows Unlock, Call someone and Launch an app, so the exact English label of the app option is unconfirmed. Draw O (camera) and Draw V (flashlight) are fixed functions and cannot open another app. Added gestures appear under More screen-off gestures, where they can be changed or deleted. Works only while the screen is off. realme says its phones have no lock-screen mistouch prevention and suggests turning screen-off gestures off when pocket mis-touches happen, so use a gesture together with a second input. Whether the app opens over the lock screen or only after unlocking is not documented.

Recommended presets

  • Shake ×3Sends a signal

Three sharp shakes within 2.5 s: hard to do by accident, easy to do without looking.

    Shake ×3, 0.15–1 s apart · whole gesture within 2.5 s

  • Widget ×2Sends a signal

Two taps on the home-screen widget within 3 s; a single accidental tap does nothing.

    Widget ×2, 0.1–3 s apart · whole gesture within 3 s

  • Screen-off gesture, then shake ×2Sends a signal

One drawn letter on the dark screen confirmed by two sharp shakes; a pocket mis-touch alone cannot fire it.

    Screen-off gesture ×1 → then within 8 s: Shake ×2, 0.3–1.5 s apart · whole gesture within 12 s

  • Screen-off gesture ×2Sends a signal

Draw the letter, lock the phone with the power button, draw it again; needing a manual lock in between makes accidental repeats unlikely.

    Screen-off gesture ×2, 1.5–15 s apart · whole gesture within 20 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
