Launch ColorOS version not individually sourced (released after ColorOS 12). Screen-off gesture support taken from ColorOS-wide documentation, not a model-specific source.

Gestures on the Reno8 Pro 5G

With the screen off, draw a custom letter gesture (Draw M, Draw W or Draw ∧) assigned to open our app

ReportedInput: Screen-off gesture

Requires: ColorOS 11 or later with Screen-off gestures switched on; touch panel support (OPPO says features vary by model)

Set it up

  1. Settings
  2. Accessibility & convenience
  3. Gestures & motions
  4. Screen-off gestures
  5. Draw M
  6. Quick signal: gesture

Turn on the Screen-off gestures switch first, then tap a gesture under More (Draw ∧, Draw M or Draw W; ColorOS 16 defaults are Calculator, Gemini and Recorder) and choose our app as its action. The exact label of the app action on current ColorOS is not documented (ColorOS 6 called it 'Start an App'). Path on ColorOS 13.1-14.0: Settings > Additional settings > Gestures & motions > Screen-off gestures, where custom gestures are added with 'Add gesture' (ColorOS 12 manual: Settings > System settings > Gestures & motions; ColorOS 11 guide: Settings > Convenience Aid > Gesture & Motions > Screen-off Gestures > Add Screen-off Gestures, e.g. 'slide up to open the calculator'). OPPO's ColorOS 12 and 13.1 manuals say custom screen-off gestures do not work while the phone is locked (only the built-in O, V and music gestures do), so expect to unlock with fingerprint, face or PIN before our entry opens. The ColorOS 14.0, 14.1 and 15.0 manuals do not cover screen-off gestures and the ColorOS 16 manual does not repeat the limit, so it is unconfirmed for ColorOS 14-16; test on the device. Draw O (camera), Draw V (torch) and the music gestures are fixed on/off toggles in OPPO's manual. Confidence is 'reported': OPPO's manuals document customisable gesture actions and give app examples (ColorOS 11: 'slide up to open the calculator'; ColorOS 16: Calculator, Recorder) but never say any installed app can be chosen; that option is shown in OPPO Community posts and press coverage of the shared ColorOS/OxygenOS 16 menu. Not counted: Quick Launch (fingerprint shortcut menu limited to supported apps) and the Find X9 series Snap Key / Quick Button (fixed actions only).

Plus what the app offers on every Android phone: In-app button, Widget, Quick Settings tile, Shake, Volume keys, Voice phrase. How to set those up

Recommended presets

  • Shake ×3Sends a signal

Three sharp shakes within 2.5 s: hard to do by accident, easy to do without looking.

    Shake ×3, 0.15–1 s apart · whole gesture within 2.5 s

  • Widget ×2Sends a signal

Two taps on the home-screen widget within 3 s; a single accidental tap does nothing.

    Widget ×2, 0.1–3 s apart · whole gesture within 3 s

  • Gesture + shake ×2Sends a signal

Draw the screen-off gesture, then shake twice within a few seconds; a stray pocket gesture is rarely followed by two sharp shakes.

    Screen-off gesture ×1 → then within 8 s: Shake ×2, 0.3–1.5 s apart · whole gesture within 12 s

  • Gesture ×2Sends a signal

Draw the gesture, lock the screen with the power key, draw it again; two deliberate screen-off gestures with a lock in between are hard to trigger by accident.

    Screen-off gesture ×2, 2–20 s apart · whole gesture within 25 s

  • Gesture + volume keysSends a signal

Draw the gesture, then enter the volume-key pattern; needs two different deliberate actions (full build only).

    Screen-off gesture ×1 → then within 8 s: Volume keys ×1 · whole gesture within 12 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
