The Floating Bar can hold our shortcut; no hardware key or gesture opens a chosen app. On sale at AT&T from 8 June 2018 and in Korea from July 2018.

Gestures on the V35 ThinQ

Tap the Floating Bar tab at the edge of the screen, then tap our Quick signal: key shortcut in it

ReportedInput: Extra key

Requires: LG UX with the Floating Bar (Settings > Extensions > Floating Bar); only the models that list this capability

Set it up

  1. Settings
  2. Extensions
  3. Floating Bar
  4. Turn on
  5. Shortcuts
  6. Add
  7. Quick signal: key

The Floating Bar is an on-screen tab, not a hardware key: one tap opens it and a tap on our shortcut opens the entry, so one oem_key event means two taps, and it works only while the screen is on and unlocked. LG's G8 ThinQ and V50 ThinQ user guides list Shortcuts as one of the Floating Bar's sections (with Screen capture, Music player and Quick contacts); AT&T's LG tutorials and LG's V30 manual say that apps or features can be added to Shortcuts, up to five. The bar can be dragged along the screen edge or dragged to the top to hide it. The V60 ThinQ user guide (Verizon) has no Floating Bar, so later models are not listed.

Plus what the app offers on every Android phone: In-app button, Widget, Quick Settings tile, Shake, Volume keys, Voice phrase. How to set those up

Recommended presets

  • Shake ×3Sends a signal

Three sharp shakes within 2.5 s: hard to do by accident, easy to do without looking.

    Shake ×3, 0.15–1 s apart · whole gesture within 2.5 s

  • Widget ×2Sends a signal

Two taps on the home-screen widget within 3 s; a single accidental tap does nothing.

    Widget ×2, 0.1–3 s apart · whole gesture within 3 s

  • Floating Bar ×2Sends a signal

Two taps on our Floating Bar shortcut within 10 s; each needs the tab and then our shortcut, so a stray touch on the tab does nothing.

    Extra key ×2, 0.5–8 s apart · whole gesture within 10 s

  • Floating Bar, then shake ×2Sends a signal

One tap on our Floating Bar shortcut followed by two sharp shakes within 5 s: two different inputs make an accidental fire very unlikely.

    Extra key ×1 → then within 5 s: Shake ×2, 0.15–1.5 s apart · whole gesture within 8 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
