Ships with Android 9; on sale from July 2019 in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. Air Motion is reported to open a chosen app, as on the G8 ThinQ.

Gestures on the G8s ThinQ

With the screen on, hold your palm over the front camera, cup your hand when the Air Motion bar appears, then swipe it to the side you gave our entry

ReportedInput: Extra key

Requires: LG G8s ThinQ (LM-G810), which has the same Z Camera (ToF sensor) and Air Motion as the G8 ThinQ

Set it up

  1. Settings
  2. Extensions
  3. Air Motion
  4. Shortcut and capture
  5. Turn on
  6. Swipe left (or Swipe right)
  7. Quick signal: key

LG's G8s ThinQ announcement lists Air Motion as a touchless command interface, and a G8s tips guide (Zoomit) shows the same Shortcut and capture setting with an app for each swipe direction as on the G8 ThinQ. LG's own G8s manual was not checked, so the menu path is taken from the G8 ThinQ guide and may sit under General instead of Extensions. One oem_key event means one complete palm, cup and swipe sequence, and it needs the screen on.

Plus what the app offers on every Android phone: In-app button, Widget, Quick Settings tile, Shake, Volume keys, Voice phrase. How to set those up

Recommended presets

  • Shake ×3Sends a signal

Three sharp shakes within 2.5 s: hard to do by accident, easy to do without looking.

    Shake ×3, 0.15–1 s apart · whole gesture within 2.5 s

  • Widget ×2Sends a signal

Two taps on the home-screen widget within 3 s; a single accidental tap does nothing.

    Widget ×2, 0.1–3 s apart · whole gesture within 3 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
