Ships with EMUI 9.1 (Android 9) and Google Mobile Services. Our app needs Android 10, so install the EMUI 10 update first (rolled out from early 2020). Huawei later planned EMUI 10.1 for it, which also runs on Android 10. No built-in gesture or key opens a chosen app: knuckle gestures (where present) only take screenshots or record the screen, and double-pressing Volume down only takes a photo or opens the camera. The same model codes are used by the Y9 Prime 2019, and STK-L21 also by the P smart Pro, so confirm the detected model.
