Requires: Fossil Gen 6 watch on Wear OS 3 (the Gen 6 and Venture Edition need the Wear OS 3 update first)

Set it up

  2. Settings
  3. Advanced features

  5. Bottom button
  6. Quick signal

9to5Google's review of the Gen 6 Wellness Edition on Wear OS 3: the bottom button is customizable to open the app of your choice; the crown opens the app list and the top button shows recent apps. Fossil doesn't publish the menu path: the steps are Google's Wear OS 3 help for watches with more than one button (Wear OS 2 called it Settings › Personalization › Customize hardware buttons), so the names on the watch may differ. Each press opens Quick signal once, so presses are counted one by one. Rehearse with a test signal first.

Plus what the app offers on every Wear OS watch: Watch (hold to fire). How to set those up

Recommended presets

  • Bottom button ×3Sends a signal

Three presses of the bottom button within 10 s, each opening Quick signal: works without looking at the watch, and one bumped button doesn't fire.

    Watch button ×3, 0.4–3 s apart · whole gesture within 10 s

  • Bottom button, then hold in the watch appSends a signal

One press of the bottom button, then the 2-second hold in the DBP Shield watch app within 15 s: two different inputs, so neither a bumped button nor a stray touch fires alone.

    Watch button ×1 → then within 15 s: Watch (hold to fire) ×1 · whole gesture within 20 s

Gestures are set up in the phone settings as shown, then combined into a trigger recipe in the app, where practice mode shows step by step whether a gesture would trigger.
